Underdog Bravery

Leadership almost always involves thinking and acting like the underdog. That’s because leaders work to change things, and the people who are winning rarely do. Leading requires courage. Managing doesn’t and following the rules to make a living doesn’t. It might be hard work, but it feels safe. Changing things – pushing the envelope and creating a future that doesn’t exist yet (at the same time you’re criticized by everyone else) – requires bravery.

Ordinary thinking and ordinary effort are almost never enough to generate leadership. That’s because our inclination is to do barely enough. It takes something extraordinary, a call to action that is irresistible, and a cause worth fighting for to make people actually join in. (Source: Seth Godin)

Simplicity

Simplicity requires both renewed awareness and courageous action, which starts with slowing down. Adapting to our changing, complex world means being clear about our highest priorities, making room for what matters the most, being able to expand our capacity to be aware of what is present in the moment, and then moving forward with this new awareness. This level of awareness and action is not reached by more manic busyness. We must not allow ourselves to confuse franticness with being adaptive.

Let the change in the world begin with me. Simplicity can be found within.

In Memory of my Friend Misha (1998-2010)

Misha was very special and I will always remember him. I miss you, golden eyes.

A song for you my love

And I never thought I'd feel this way
And as far as I'm concerned
I'm glad I got the chance to say
That I do believe I love you

And if I should ever go away
Well, then close your eyes and try to feel
The way we do today
And then if you can remember

Keep smilin', keep shinin'
Knowin' you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Well, you came and opened me
And now there's so much more I see
And so by the way I thank you

Whoa, and then for the times when we're apart
Well, then close your eyes and know
These words are comin' from my heart
And then if you can remember, oh

Keep smiling, keep shining
Knowing you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
In good times, in bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
Oh, that's what friends are for

Whoa... oh... oh... keep smilin', keep shinin'
Knowin' you can always count on me, for sure
That's what friends are for
For good times and bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for

Keep smilin', keep shinin'
Knowin' you can always count on me, oh, for sure
'Cause I tell you that's what friends are for
For good times and for bad times
I'll be on your side forever more
That's what friends are for (That's what friends are for)

On me, for sure
That's what friends are for
Keep smilin', keep shinin'

Changing the World

A tribe is a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea. For millions of years, human beings have been part of one tribe or another. A group needs only two things to be a tribe: a shared interest and a way to communicate. Tribes need leadership. Sometimes one person, sometimes more. People want connection and growth and something new. They want change. You can’t have a tribe without a leader – and you can’t be a leader without a tribe. – Seth Godin

Why am I here?

Fully answering this question can fundamentally change your experience of life. People who know their purpose know where they’re going, what they’re doing, and more importantly, they know why they’re doing it. This shifts the basic emphasis of life from one of meeting needs, dealing with fears, and seeking happiness to following a path that leads to the greatest fulfillment, success, and meaning in life. Knowing your purpose satisfies a deep need that lives in everyone: the need for meaning, to have positive impact, to have your presence and life felt by others. As people age, the yearning to leave some kind of legacy grows stronger. There is no greater legacy you can leave than living your life purpose to the fullest extent possible.
